Complete ground school fundamentals and simulator hours for six aircraft types in weeks, not the months a traditional flight school schedule demands.
Most online ground school courses ask you to watch videos until you feel ready to fly. Aeronautics Lab puts you in the seat from the first lesson. You build a flight plan, read the instruments, fly a traffic pattern in a Cessna 172, survive a simulated engine failure, and debrief with an AI flight instructor — CFI Jade — who heard every input you made and has notes. Twenty hours of structured work across six aircraft types, from a trainer to an F-22, at a pace a traditional flight school schedule rarely allows. One payment of $39.
By the end of the lab you will be able to:
Step 1 — Ground school with real numbers
Each aircraft type starts with a focused ground school module. CFI Jade explains the systems, performance figures and regulations relevant to that airframe. You answer questions by speaking or typing; Jade corrects errors immediately, not at the end of a quiz. Nothing moves forward until the concept is solid.
Step 2 — Fly it in the browser simulator
You move into the cockpit. The flight simulator runs in your browser — no download, no hardware beyond a mouse or keyboard. Jade monitors your control inputs, airspeed management, checklist execution and radio calls in real time. When you let the nose drop below pattern altitude on downwind, she says so before you reach base leg.
Step 3 — Checkride brief and certification
After each aircraft phase, Jade runs an oral checkride brief modelled on the FAA practical test standards. She asks, you answer. Performance across the sim sessions and the oral determines whether you pass. Jade Labs issues a performance-based certificate — meaning it reflects what you actually demonstrated, not just that you watched the content.
Six aircraft types
Cessna 172 Skyhawk · Piper Cherokee · Beechcraft Bonanza · Cirrus SR22 · Boeing 737 (systems and procedures) · Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor
Each aircraft has its own ground school module, performance tables, emergency checklists and simulator profile. The range exists so you understand how systems complexity scales — not so you can claim fighter-pilot hours.
Ground school with real numbers
Density altitude calculations, weight and balance problems, fuel burn figures, VOR tracking, airspace rules. Not approximations.
Flight-plan builder
You plan a real route — sectional chart interpretation, filing format, alternate requirements. Jade checks your work item by item.
Emergency scenarios
Engine failure on takeoff, engine failure en route, electrical fire, inadvertent IMC entry, bird strike. Each scenario has a defined entry point, a correct procedure and a debrief.
CFI Jade — live coaching
Jade listens to your responses and watches your simulator inputs. Corrections arrive during the manoeuvre, not after. You can ask her why at any point and get a straight answer.
The lab is designed for all levels. If you already hold a PPL, the emergency scenarios and checkride briefs will still give you something to work against.

Note on FAA written test prep: Sporty's and King Schools are better choices if your immediate goal is to pass the FAA knowledge test. Aeronautics Lab is designed to build practical understanding and procedural competence — it complements a dedicated written-test prep course rather than replacing it.
Is this a replacement for an accredited private pilot course?
No. Aeronautics Lab is not an FAA-approved Part 141 or Part 61 course and the hours cannot be logged toward a certificate. It is structured ground school and simulator practice that prepares you to make better use of real flight training and gives non-students a genuine understanding of flight operations.
What do cockpit instruments mean, and will this actually teach me to read them?
Yes. Each instrument — attitude indicator, altimeter, VSI, DI, turn coordinator, engine gauges — is explained in the ground school module with the underlying physics, and then you read them under load in the simulator. Jade will ask you to interpret a specific reading during the checkride brief.
Can I use this for flight simulator training alongside X-Plane or MSFS?
Yes. If you already have a desktop simulator, Aeronautics Lab gives the procedural framework and systems knowledge that makes simulator flying meaningful. Many sim pilots use it to understand why the checklists say what they say.
How does the engine failure checklist practice work?
Jade places you at a defined point in a flight — altitude, airspeed, configuration — and cuts the engine. You work the checklist verbally and through the sim controls. Jade evaluates sequence, timing and completeness, then debriefs what you got right and what you missed.
How do I do a traffic pattern correctly, and will the lab grade it?
Yes. The traffic pattern module covers entry, leg-by-leg altitudes and airspeeds for each aircraft type, radio calls and go-around decision-making. Jade watches your altitude and airspeed control on each leg and flags deviations in real time rather than at the end.
How to learn to fly online without access to a physical flight school?
Aeronautics Lab covers the ground school fundamentals and gives you structured simulator time you can complete from a browser. It will not replace a CFI or a real aircraft, but it meaningfully closes the gap between no experience and sitting in the right seat for the first time — and it costs less than a single hour of dual instruction.
$39 one-time · 20 hours · All levels · Runs in any browser
Every Jade Labs lab is also included in the All Access plan at $19/month — one subscription covers the full catalogue as it grows.
